Jake Gyllenhaal set to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s supernatural romance

January 30, 2025 by Matt Rodgers

Jake Gyllenhaal is hopefully going to tap into some of that Nightcrawler darkness by singing on to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s mysterious new supernatural romance.

According to Deadline the untiled film is a supernatural romantic thriller which has been written by Shyamalan alongside Nicholas Sparks, who is best known for the likes of A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, and Dear John.

The two came up with an original story, and are both working independently on scripts for the mystery film. Both will focus on the same set of characters and concept, but they will gear their respective screenplays towards their specialist genres of horror and romance.

Gyllenhaal is coming off the back of a successful 2024, which saw him earn critical acclaim in Apple TV+’s adaptation of Presumed Innocent, while he saw similar streaming success with Prime Video’s Doug Liman-directed Road House remake. Shyamalan also had a strong year, steering his $30 million budgeted thriller Trap to a summer haul of $83 million worldwide.
