Director Trey Edward Shults (Waves) understands striking visuals and complex narratives, but Hurry Up Tomorrow might be his wildest trip yet.
Hurry Up Tomorrow sees Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye tackle a psychological thriller film directed and edited by Shults, based on Tesfaye’s sixth studio album of the same name. Shults wrote the screenplay with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim.
Little is known about the project, and the puzzling teaser that dropped doesn’t reveal much about the madness that awaits. The film follows a musician plagued by insomnia who is pulled into an odyssey with a stranger who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.
The album this will be reportedly based on marks a significant moment in the career of the singer-turned-actor; Hurry Up Tomorrow is the conclusion to the musical trilogy of The Weeknd’s After Hours and Dawn FM. We’ve seen The Weeknd, who also appeared as himself in Uncut Gems and starred in HBO’s The Idol. Trey Edward Shults’ Hurry Up Tomorrow marks his feature film debut as an actor.
The films stars Abel Tesfaye, Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan. Gabby Barrett and Charli D’Amelio are also set to feature. Check out the teaser below…
