Avatar: Seven Havens animated series to continue franchise with original creators

February 20, 2025 by Ricky Church

The Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise is set to continue with a new animated series, Avatar: Seven Havens. Set after The Legend of Korra with original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko returning, Seven Havens follows the next Avatar in the cycle during a cataclysmic event where the Avatars are no longer trusted.

Avatar: Seven Havens sees the world “shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra – but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender first premiered in 2006. In the series’ world people can control the elements of air, water, earth and fire, but only a chosen Avatar can bend them to their will. Every generation a new Avatar is chosen by fate, cycling through the four elemental nations for its successor. The original series followed Aang, a young airbender who was named the Avatar while The Legend of Korra focused on the waterbender Korra who gained the title.

Avatar: Seven Havens will be produced by Avatar Studios in the franchise’s traditional 2D format. At the moment, it will run for 26-episodes split into Book 1 and Book 2 with DiMartino and Konietzko serving as executive producers alongside Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” said DiMartino and Konietzko. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters. Get ready to take another epic and emotional adventure!”

“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” said Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatarverse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

This is the latest expansion of the Avatar franchise. In addition to Netflix’s live-action adaptation of the animated series and other spin-off novels of previous Avatars – as well as the newly announced Avatar Legends novel –  Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon are developing three animated Avatar: The Last Airbender films with the first to focus on Aang in the years between The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. That film will be released in theatres on January 30th, 2026.
