Krypto shorts to serve as a companion piece to James Gunn’s Superman

March 1, 2025 by EJ Moreno

Krypto has taken over the Superman marketing, and the iconic super dog is a centerpiece of James Gunn’s iteration.

Gunn is even giving fans more of the character in some upcoming shorts as companions to the new film. Per ComicBook, Gunn has announced that Krypto shorts will launch later this year. It was confirmed that there will be four of these shorts and they will start in the fall.

“We’ve got these cool little Krypto shorts that are so fun, man. I’ve been watching all of them,” said Gunn. “He’s a terrible, terrible dog. It’s for families and it’s just really fun and goofy. It’s pretty cool. It’s definitely the Krypto you fall in love with in Superman.”

“He’s a terrible dog,” adds DC Studios co-chair Peter Safran.

It’s unclear if David Corenswet’s Superman/Clark Kent will appear in these shorts, but they should certainly serve as a fun addition to this newly launched franchise reboot.

Superman tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

Superman stars David Corenswet (Twisters) in the iconic dual roles of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (I’m Your Woman) as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (Nosferatu) as Lex Luthor. The blockbuster also stars Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Sara Sampaio, Maria Gabriela de Faria, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Neva Howell, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, and Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe.

Superman opens in US theaters on July 11, 2025, and internationally on July 9, 2025.
