80s classic Head over Heels launching on Steam and Nintendo Switch this week

March 3, 2025 by Andrew Newton

Back in the 80s, a company called Ocean released what was to become (in my opinion at least) the best isometric game for the 8-bit computers, Head Over Heels. Then, last year this classic was given a new lease of life with an enhanced remake for the ZX Spectrum Next. But that isn’t where the story ends, as on Thursday 6th March this remake will be arriving on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, allowing a larger audience to either see if they’re still as good as they were back in the day or meet this adorable duo for the first time.  Watch the new trailer below…

In Head Over Heels, players will join Headus Mouthion (Head) and Footus Underium (Heels) as they infiltrate Blacktooth and take on the tyrannical Emperor. Unfortunately, the pair have become separated and players will have to help them reunite if they are to escape the Emperor.

Each of the pair have their own unique abilities, Head has astounding jumping abilities and can fire doughnuts from his hooter, while Heels can keep up a good pace and can carry objects. When the pair join up a variety of new and improved abilities are available for players to master.

The world that Head and Heels find themselves in is a strange one where death waits round every corner at the hands of bizarre enemies (look out for the half Dalek, half Prince Charles lookalike). There are also a wealth of smart puzzles to solve and secret passages to discover.

This remake features beautifully updated isometric levels, over 500 locations to work through, numerous save points, re-engineered controls and a brand-new soundtrack. For those wanting a more traditional experience, there are the optional ‘Classic Mode’ graphics and sound settings that will help recreate that the 8-bit experience.

Featuring:

  • Over 500 locations to complete, including a brand-new area not in the the original game.
  • Multiple save points.
  • New enemies and objects.
  • A whimsical soundtrack by Space Fractal.
  • Chickens….. I don’t know why.

Head Over Heels arrives on Nintendo Switch and Steam this Thursday.
