Sydney Sweeney to lead I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl

March 21, 2025 by Ricky Church

Euphoria and Anybody But You star Sydney Sweeney has signed on to star in and produce I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl, based on a short story by Joe Cote.

Cote wrote the story on Reddit and it gained a following. The story follows a drifter who impersonates a missing girl to rob the girl’s family — only to realize she’s made a terrible mistake.

Eric Roth (Dune) will write the screenplay while Sweeney will produce through her company Fifty-Fifty Films. Also producing are Roy Lee, Steven Schneider and Trevor Engelson for Vertigo and Aaron Folbe at Underground. A director has not yet been chosen.

Sweeney has several projects in the works as she begins taking on a more hands-on role as a producer after her producing work on the films Anybody But You and Immaculate.
