Mikey Madison and Kirsten Dunst are starring in one of the strangest films hitting the Cannes market.
As reported this week, Reptilia is a new thriller that promises to set the world ablaze. The film tells the story of a dental hygienist seduced by a mysterious mermaid into the dark and wet underworld of Florida’s exotic animal trade.
Alejandro Landes Echavarría (Monos) will helm the project, which is based on a script by Landes Echavarría and Duke Merriman. Imperative Entertainment, Pastel, and AF Films will produce alongside Landes Echavarría under his A Stela Cine banner.
The project follows Madison’s Best Actress Oscar win for Anora. She’s also known for Scream 5 and had a supporting role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Dunst meanwhile has had a prolific career in Hollywood, even making a splash at Cannes by winning the Best Actress prize for Melancholia. She’s also starred in The Power of the Dog, The Virgin Suicides, and Spider-Man. We’ll see her next in Roofman opposite Channing Tatum and Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down.
Reptilia is set for a showcase by Charades to international buyers at the Cannes market and principal photography will commence this fall.
