Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars delayed

May 23, 2025 by EJ Moreno

When Marvel Studios has two of the biggest films ever on their hands, the powerhouse superhero movie studio knows it will take some time. Two of their most anticipated projects, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, will need more development time.

Avengers: Doomsday has moved from May 5 to December 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the follow-up film is also set for a year later, with Avengers: Secret Wars moving from May 5 to December 17, 2027.

While no official reason has been given, the delays reportedly allowed Marvel “more time to execute on a gargantuan vision.” The holiday season release also gives them a similar release window as Spider-Man: No Way Home, which became one of the few post-Endgame hits for the MCU.

Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are returning to this universe after leaving in 2019 and hope to restore the comic book movie brand to its former glory.

Officially confirmed for the cast of Avengers: Doomsday are Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barners/Winter Soldier), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/US Agent), Tenoch Huerta Mejía (Namor), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/The Thing), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Kelsey Grammer (Hank McCoy/Beast), Lewis Pullman (Bob/Sentry), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres/Falcon), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Winston Duke (M’Baku), Hannah John-Kamen (Ava Starr/Ghost), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier/Professor X), Ian McKellen (Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto), Alan Cumming (Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Raven Darkholme/Mystique), James Marsden (Scott Summers/Cyclops), Channing Tatum (Remy LeBeau/Gambit) and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic).
