Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer is set to reprise one of her most iconic roles with the news that she will star in a sequel to 2019 horror movie, Ma.
Spencer teamed up with her The Help director Tate Taylor to steer the revenge film towards $60 million at the global box-office. What made that all the more impressive was it was on a Blumhouse budget of just $5 million.
The announcement was made at the studio’s The Business of Fear event, where horror head-honcho Jason Blum said “Ma has proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance as Ma. Ma likes to say ‘don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled Octavia will join us again for a second round.”
In Ma, Spencer played a lonely woman named Sue Ann, who befriends a group of teenagers and decides to provide them with alcohol and let them party at her house. Just when the kids think their luck couldn’t get any better, strange things start happening that makes them question the intentions of their new friend.
