A24 have managed to attract an impressive lead duo for their adaptation of web-series The Backrooms, with the news that The Worst Person in the World‘s Renate Reinsve is set to join Chiwetel Ejiofor in the horror movie.
Per Deadline’s report The Life of Chuck and A Different Man stars have been cast in the film, which is being directed by 19-year-old horror influencer and filmmaker Kane Parsons.
Debuting in 2022 with a short-film called The Backrooms: Found Footage, which has generated over 60 million views, the series focuses on a fictional research institute named Async, who discover the backrooms and attempt to research and document what they find in the large, extra-dimensional expanses that make up this world. Each episode is based on the strange and unusual anomalies that the team find in this seemingly bland corporate office space.
Reinsve won the Cannes Film Festival’s prize for Best Actress when she burst onto the scene in Joachim Trier’s The Worst Person in the World, and has capitalised with impressive performances in the likes of A Different Man, Handling the Undead, and critically acclaimed Apple TV series Presumed Innocent. Academy Award nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor can currently be seen in Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck (read our review here).
