Yahya Abdul-Mateen II joins David Fincher’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel

Last month came the somewhat surprising news that David Fincher is teaming with Quentin Tarantino for a follow-up to the latter’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood entitled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, and now it seems that casting is starting to heat up on the project.

According to Deadline, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) is set to join the previously announced Elizabeth Debicki (MaXXXine) and Scott Caan (Hawaii Five-0) as newcomers to the world of Tarantino’s Hollywood. Brad Pitt is reprising his role as Cliff Booth, while his Hollywood co-star Leonardo DiCaprio is also believed to be in talks for a Rick Dalton return.

Plot details for the film are a closely guarded secret, but the film will take place after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, with Pitt’s Cliff Booth now working as a Hollywood fixer. Mateen is reportedly set to portray a star football player-turned-actor, in the vein of Jim Brown (The Dirty Dozen).

Quentin Tarantino has written the script for The Adventures of Cliff Booth, but with his ambitions lying elsewhere for his tenth and reportedly final project, he gave Pitt his blessing to take it to his Se7en and Fight Club director David Fincher. Netflix will reportedly finance and distribute the project as part of its exclusive deal with Fincher.
