June 24, 2025 by Ricky Church

Mark Gatiss (Sherlock, The League of Gentlemen) is starring in Bookish, another British mystery drama he is writing. The trailer for the upcoming series sees Gatiss as Gabriel Book, an eccentric bookshop owner who is also a detective helping the police solve various cases of scandalous nature. Set in post-WW2 London, Gabriel Book helps the police solve their knottiest cases. He is a gay man at a time when homosexuality was illegal, and in a lavender marriage to childhood friend Trottie, played by Bridgerton‘s Polly Walker.

Bookish also features Connor Finch (Everything I Know About Love), Book’s new assistant Jack, Elliot Levey (Quiz) and Daniel Mays (Rogue One). Guest stars seen in the trailer include Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck) and Paul McGann (Luther).

Bookish will premiere on July 16th.
