Anthony Ippolito to play Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rocky

August 31, 2025 by Gary Collinson

Fresh from playing a young Al Pacino in The Offer, the Paramount+ series about the making of The Godfather, actor Anthony Ippolito is going back behind the scenes of 70s Hollywood to portray a young Sylvester Stallone in I Play Rocky.

The film is being directed by Peter Farrelly (Green Book) from a script by Peter Gamble, I Play Rocky is being described as “the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie” and will see Ippolito portraying the young Sly, struggling to make his mark in Hollywood, as he bets everything his screenplay about an underdog boxer called Rocky Balboa.

1976’s Rocky would of course serve as the international breakthrough for Sylvester Stallone, winning the Oscars for Best Picture and Best Director (John G. Avildsen) as well as Oscar nominations for Stallone for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. It launched a franchise that continues to this day and set Stallone on his path to becoming one of the biggest names in Hollywood.
