Interview – Don Worley on Reinvention, Resilience, and the Power of Second Chances

October 17, 2025 by Amie Cranswick

In Hollywood, few stories embody reinvention quite like that of Don Worley who is an actor, producer, and former trial attorney whose path to the entertainment world has been anything but conventional.

Originally from Texas, Don’s early love for theater and comedy eventually led him to study acting at The University of Texas and appear in films like D.O.A. and True Stories. But rather than chasing fame straight out of college, Don took an unexpected turn into law, building a successful national legal practice before returning to his creative roots as a stand-up comedian, viral YouTube creator, and now film producer.

With projects like A Time for Sunset scooping up film festival awards and streaming on Amazon Prime, and Mandate, co-starring Jon Lovitz, Chris Kattan, and Tara Reid, set for release, Don Worley has carved a career defined by determination, humor, and second chances.

We caught up with Don to talk about his winding journey, creative philosophy, and what comes next for this one-of-a-kind multi-hyphenate.

Don, your journey is incredibly diverse – actor, lawyer, comedian, producer. What keeps you reinventing yourself?

I don’t think I can stop. If I’m not creating, I’m restless. Every phase of my life has fueled the next — law sharpened my discipline, comedy taught me timing, and filmmaking brought all of it together.

You’ve also won awards for acting. How did it feel to get that kind of recognition, especially given your unusual career path?

Honestly, it meant a lot. I sometimes worry people who see me as a lawyer buying his way into acting, so winning a Best Actor award from a film festival gave me credibility from a neutral source. It’s validating to know the work stands on its own.

You’ve built successful careers in two completely different industries. What advice would you give someone looking to start over mid-career?

Stop talking about what you want to do and start doing it. No one cares about your “someday” plan, you have to just take the first step and figure it out as you go.

That’s great advice. If you could go back and tell your younger self one thing about the entertainment business, what would it be?

Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for someone to call. Do it yourself. That’s the only way I’ve ever made anything happen.

Looking ahead, what’s the dream project for you?

I’d love to create a scripted comedy series for a major streamer, something smart and character-driven, with humor that’s grounded in reality.

What can audiences expect from your upcoming projects?

I’ve got Mandate with Jon Lovitz, Chris Kattan, and Tara Reid, and Tramps Like Us with Michael Paré — both scheduled for release in early 2026. Mandate will have a theatrical run, and there are three more films in pre-production right now.

And beyond the career goals, what do you hope your legacy will be?

That it’s never too late to take your second shot. Life doesn’t have to follow one straight line. Sometimes the second act is where you finally hit your stride, and that’s been true for me.

Don Worley’s latest award-winning movie A Time for Sunset just released. Watch it on Apple TV and Amazon Video.
