Evan Rachel Wood joins Ryan Murphy’s Bret Easton Ellis adaptation The Shards

October 30, 2025 by Ricky Church

Ryan Murphy’s latest FX series The Shards has made a new addition to its cast. Per Deadline, Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld) will star in a recurring role in the mystery drama.

The Shards is an adaptation of American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis’ novel of the same name which contains semi-autobiographical details of Ellis’ youth. The series will take place in 1981 Los Angeles as it follows “a 17-year-old version of Ellis during his final year at the elite Buckley prep school. Upending the character’s world is the arrival of a mysterious new student, Robert Mallory, whose unsettling presence coincides with the activities of a serial killer known as The Trawler.”

The cast includes Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), Igby Rigney (Midnight Mass), Homer Gere (Euphoria), Graham Campbell (Late Fame) and Hayes Warner.

The Shards will be produced by 20th Century Fox and Ryan Murphy Productions with Murphy and Ellis executive producing alongside director Max Winkler (Max Winkler), who will helm the series.
