With her new film Christy set to open in cinemas this week [read our review here], Deadline is reporting that Sydney Sweeney has signed on to produce star in a remake of the 1964 French adventure comedy film That Man From Rio, which Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin is directing for Apple Original Films.
Directed by Philippe de Broca and starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Françoise Dorléac, the original film spoofed the James Bond films of the era and followed a young soldier on leave who comes to the aid of his girlfriend who has been kidnapped by thieves and taken to Rio de Janeiro.
The remake will reunite Sweeney with both Apple and producer Kevin Walsh of The Walsh Company following their work together on this year’s thriller Echo Valley. Lin will direct from a script by Chase Palmer (IT), and the search is now underway for the film’s male lead, with an A-list star targeted.
2025 has been another huge year for Sydney Sweeney, who also appeared in Ron Howard’s Eden alongside the aforementioned Echo Valley and Christy, the latter of which is drawing awards buzz for her role as iconic American boxer Christy Martin. Next up for the star is Paul Feig’s The Housemaid alongside Amanda Seyfried, which is set for release in December [watch the trailer here].
