Exclusive: Bryan Fuller teases fans are “in for a treat” with “crazier” Hannibal season 4

December 2, 2025 by Ricky Church

As Bryan Fuller is getting ready for the premiere of his directorial debut family horror film Dust Bunny, we were able to speak with him not just about that film but also about his previous TV series Hannibal and what fans could expect if it returns for a fourth season.

Adapted from Thomas Harris’ novels, primarily Red Dragon, Hannibal followed FBI agent Will Graham as he began investigating a brutal serial killer, enlisting the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter on the cases. Unknown to Will and his colleagues at the FBI, Hannibal was a cannibal serial killer himself and used his vast psychological knowledge and brilliant mind to stay several steps ahead of the FBI and toy with Will’s mind. The series ran for three seasons between 2013 and 2015 and became a fan-favourite among Fuller’s works, earning a dedicated fanbase that has clamoured for more of Hannibal and Will’s game of cat-and-mouse.

In this age of TV where many old shows are getting revivals, sequels or reboots like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Connors, The X-Files and more, it is not unreasonable to believe Hannibal could one day get a fourth season. We asked Fuller on that possibility on what fans might expect should he ever return to tell more stories of the good doctor’s wickedness.

“What was really lovely about the experience with making Hannibal is that everybody seemed to love the process. To an actor, everyone wants to return, even some of the dead ones and there’s ways to do that with the idea for Season 4. If you liked Season 3, and some people were like ‘I wasn’t wild about Season 3’, but Season 3 for me was my favourite and where I felt like this is exactly what I wanted to do. Season 1 and 2 were uneven for me and there were episodes I was proud of and some episodes that I wasn’t, certainly more of those in Season 1, less of those in Season 2, but when we got to Season 3 I felt like this was the show I always wanted this to be and that would be the trajectory we would be following. So if you like Season 3, you’re in for a treat with what we have planned for Season 4 because it’s just going to get crazier.”
