Tig Notaro and Zack Snyder developing “hot lesbian” action movie Deviants

December 3, 2025 by Ricky Church

After filling in almost last minute for Zack Snyder’s zombie thriller Army of the Dead, Tig Notaro revealed she and the director are now looking to reunite and are developing a “hot lesbian action” movie titled Deviants.

Notaro was brought on to Army of the Dead near the film’s post-production completion to replace Chris D’Elia due to sexual misconduct allegations. Snyder utilized green screen and CGI to place Notaro in the film alongside Dave Bautista and the rest of the cast despite her never having actually worked with them. The reception to her character, who was a helicopter pilot hired by Bautista and his crew to rob Vegas casinos in the midst of a zombie outbreak, was according to Notaro incredibly positive for her comic relief and apparent attractiveness.

Notaro revealed on the podcast On with Kara Swisher that she was bombarded with memes of her character and how audiences latched onto her looks. It resulted in a conversation with Snyder where the two began brainstorming an action film featuring several “hot lesbians.”

“I called Zack, and I said, ‘I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie. What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?'” Notaro said on the podcast. “He was like, ‘Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie.’ And so who knows? It’s a Hollywood project. We’re in the process of putting the script together. Picture this poster: We have the name of the film, and then it says ‘Hot Lesbian Action.’ Come on. That’s how I sold him on the Zoom.”

She also revealed the title of the potential film as “Deviants, and takes place back in some old-timey days, like some closeted deviants.”

Army of the Dead was released on Netflix in 2021 and had several more installments planned, including an anime prequel Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which would have featured a tie-in to his Rebel Moon franchise, and a sequel Planet of the Dead, but plans for those have been cancelled as of last year. As for Snyder’s Rebel Moon, development on future installments have also apparently been cancelled.
