Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale delayed in wake of Rob Reiner’s death

December 17, 2025 by Ricky Church

In the wake of Rob and Michele Reiner’s tragic and shocking deaths, plans for the release of Reiner’s concert film Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale have been put on hold.

Reiner made his directorial debut with the 1984 comedy This Is Spinal Tap, a mockumentary following a rock band and their crazy exploits which starred Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer. The film became a cult classic and finally saw the release of a sequel this year, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, with the trio reprising their roles and Reiner back in the director’s chair while reprising his role from the original.

Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale was to be a concert film made up of footage filmed at Stonehenge this year which saw the band play at the historic site. The synopsis read “Rock legends Spinal Tap perform at ancient Stonehenge, merging musical and historical grandeur in an amplified finale that perfectly unites the mystique of both the band and the prehistoric monument.”

The film was planned for an IMAX release in 2026 with Bleeker Street buying US distribution rights in October. Now, however, Bleeker Street, Reiner’s family and other involved parties have paused any release plans out of respect and to mourn until, as Variety describes it, “the best path forward is decided with those closest to Rob and his family.”

In the new Spinal Tap concert film, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer all reprise their roles as the fictional members of the heavy metal band Spinal Tap. Together, they put on a once-in-a-lifetime concert marking the first-ever rock show filmed at Stonehenge, the historic English heritage site forever linked to Spinal Tap’s iconic song of the same name. Shania Twain, Eric Clapton, and Josh Groban all make guest appearances.
