Mayor of Kingstown renewed for fifth and final season

January 6, 2026 by Ricky Church

Taylor Sheridan’s crime drama Mayor of Kingstown has been renewed for a fifth and final season at Paramount+ with a shortened episode order. The Jeremy Renner-led series recently concluded its fourth season in an action-packed finale, setting the stage for Mike McLusky’s last stand in the upcoming season.

The series follows the residents of Kingstown where the prison industrial complex is the main job market. An uneasy peace lies between the various gangs, inmates and prison guards as the McLusky family controls the town and tries to keep everybody in check from blowing out into a street war. Renner stars as Mike McLusky, the unofficial mayor of the town as he tries reining the players in while protecting his family.

The fourth season saw The Sopranos veteran Edie Falco join the series as the prison’s new warden, coming into conflict with McLusky over their opposing methods and goals. Falco will return in season five in what will be a slightly shorter season consisting of eight episodes rather than ten as the previous four seasons.

Mayor of Kingstown‘s final season comes as Sheridan has signed a deal to move over to NBCUniversal after making Paramount his home for the last several years with a large TV empire. First he created Yellowstone, which has turned into a franchise of its own with prequels and upcoming spin-offs, and later created Tulsa King, Lioness, Mayor of Kingstown, Landman and the upcoming NOLA King. Sheridan’s contract with Paramount runs through until 2029 when he will move to NBC so we can potentially see more seasons of his other series before he leaves.

Mike’s control over Kingstown is threatened as new players compete to fill the power vacuum left in the Russians’ wake, compelling him to confront the resulting gang war and stop them from swallowing the town. Meanwhile, with those he loves in more danger than ever before, Mike must contend with a headstrong new Warden to protect his own while grappling with demons from his past.

Mayor of Kingstown season 4 features a cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Hugh Dillon, Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Michael Beach, Edie Falco, Lennie James and Laura Benanti.
