Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for the upcoming second season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the TV spin-off of Legendary’s Monsterverse films featuring Godzilla and King Kong.
The series plays as both a prequel and sequel to the Monsterverse, following Monarch agent Lee Shaw in the past where he is played by Thunderbolts* actor Wyatt Russell while Shaw is played in the present by Wyatt’s father Kurt Russell. It explores the origins of the Monarch organization as they research the mysterious and mythical Titan creatures and what it is doing to prevent the Titans from re-awakening and threatening the world, even with Godzilla trying to maintain the balance as King of the Monsters.
Season two will see Monarch face a new threat as a powerful Titan is unleashed on the world. The official synopsis reads:
Season two will pick up with the fate of Monarch — and the world — hanging in the balance. The dramatic saga reveals buried secrets that reunite our heroes (and villains) on Kong’s Skull Island, and a new, mysterious village where a mythical Titan rises from the sea. The ripple effects of the past make waves in the present day, blurring the bonds between family, friend and foe — all with the threat of a Titan event on the horizon.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Anna Sawai, Wyatt Russell, Kurt Russell, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm with Amber Midthunder joining the cast for season two.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season two will premiere on Apple TV+ on February 27th.
