Bird of Prey’s Christina Hodson to write the DCU’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold

January 21, 2026 by Ricky Church

James Gunn and Peter Safran are a step closer to introducing Batman into their DCU as they have hired Christina Hodson to write the script for The Brave and the Bold, the DCU film that will feature Batman and Robin from The Flash and It director Andy Muschietti.

Hodson is no stranger to DC as she previously wrote Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), Muschietti’s The Flash and the cancelled Batgirl film.

The Brave and the Bold will follow Batman and Robin, the latter of whom will be the Damien Wayne Robin. Created by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert, Damien Wayne is the son of Batman and Talia al Ghul who was raised under Talia and the League of Assassins without Batman’s knowledge. Trained in numerous forms of combat, Damien doesn’t have the respect for life his father has as the League instilled in him a murderous and ruthless nature. As Batman takes him under his wing, Damien tries to earn his father’s love and respect, living up to the strong legacy of the Bat and being a worthy Robin.

The Brave and the Bold was one of the first projects Gunn and Safran announced when they began their stewardship of DC Studios in 2023, though Gunn’s commitment to a working script for all DCU projects as kept the film on the back burner. There is also the matter of Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II, which has previously faced several production delays whether it be writing the script or the SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike. Gunn and Safran do not want to confuse audiences with two onscreen Batman or compete with Reeves’ film, making their Batman distinct enough from Reeves’ and giving enough time between projects that they won’t compete against each other.

At the moment Muschietti is still attached to direct, but he has said little regarding his involvement in recent months. Though HBO hasn’t officially renewed It: Welcome to Derry for a second season, Muschietti is developing it and could end up working on it instead of The Brave and the Bold depending on when Gunn and Safran want to begin production.

While we wait for more news on the DCU’s Batman and Robin, The Batman Part II is set to begin filming this spring for an October 1st, 2027 release date.
