Legally Blonde prequel Elle announces July premiere and early season 2 renewal

January 21, 2026 by Ricky Church

Elle Woods is coming back as Amazon Prime Video has announced the Legally Blonde prequel series Elle will premiere this summer on July 1st. What is more though is the series has already been renewed for a second season.

Elle follows the titular character in high school, examining the events that shaped her to become the determined Harvard law graduate audiences met in 2001’s Legally Blonde. The young Elle will be played by Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders), taking over from Reese Witherspoon. The official synopsis reads:

Elle follows Elle Woods (Lexi Minetree) in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first ‘Legally Blonde’ film.

Also starring in the series is June Diane Raphael (Grace & Frankie) as Elle’s mother Eva, Tom Everett Scott (The Summer I Turned Pretty) as her father Wyatt, Gabrielle Policano (Babygirl), Jacob Moskovitz (Y2K), Chandler Kinney (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), Zac Looker (A Kind of Spark), Jessica Belkin (The Hunting Wives), Logan Shroyer (This Is Us), Amy Pietz (The Office), Matt Oberg (Hacks), Chloe Wepper (Good Trouble), David Burtka (A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas), Brad Harder (Ms. Match), Kayla Maisonet (Stuck in the Middle), Lisa Yamada (Cruel Summer) and James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek).

Elle was created by Laura Kittrell, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, and Marc Platt and Amanda Brown also executive produce with Jason Moore having directed the first two episodes and executive producing. Production on season two will begin this spring.

“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” said Witherspoon. “Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. I think our series’ themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike. Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy. I can’t wait to share Season One with the world and start rolling cameras on Season Two!”

“Elle captures the heart, confidence, and optimism that made Elle Woods an enduring cultural icon, while giving audiences a fresh and deeply personal coming-of-age story,” said Peter Friedlander, global head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series, and we’re excited for audiences to experience Elle’s journey starting with Season One.”

The series premiere of Elle will arrive on Prime Video July 1st.
