MicroProse to bring back a classic air simulator with Gunship: Origins

March 20, 2026 by Andrew Newton

MicroProse has announced it will be reviving a classic series and publishing Gunship: Origins. Developed by Jammin Games, this game in the Gunship series will put players in the cockpit of some of the world’s most renowned helicopters for a true modern combat experience. Watch the new announcement trailer below….

With the upcoming Gunship: Origins, take the role of a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and take to the skies in iconic helicopters such as AH-64 Apache, AH-1 Cobra/Viper, and the UH-60 Blackhawk. Soar over battlefields filled with armoured vehicles, missile batteries, convoys, and fortified enemy positions, and complete missions and objectives.

Embark on a variety of different dynamically generated missions, such as destroying armoured columns, escorting transport helicopters, striking high-value targets, and more, whilst using the terrain to avoid enemy defences. Each sortie will bring new tactical challenges, and careful planning and quick decision-making skills will be vital to complete missions.

Gunship: Origins allow missions to be completed solo or with up to eight players in co-op multiplayer. Friends will be able to take the pilot and copilot/gunner seats in the same chopper, or take to the air in multiple aircraft for more complex mission objectives. AI wingmen will also be an option, allowing full concentration on a specific task.

Start as a Warrant Officer Candidate and rise through the ranks with each successful mission to become a Colonel, and earn authentic military medals and awards that reflect accomplishments and experience on the battlefield.

Featuring:

  • Iconic helicopters – AH-64 Apache, AH-1 Cobra/Viper, and UH-60 Blackhawk.
  • Dynamic missions with a variety of objectives.
  • Single player and co-op multiplayer options.
  • Pilot progression with ranks, promotions and medals.
  • Uses real-world terrain data.
  • Easy to learn flight controls with support for keyboard/mouse and advanced flight hardware.
  • Cross platform support between Windows PC, Linux, MacOS and Steam Deck.

Gunship: Origins is available to add to your Steam wishlist now.
