UNIT faces a Hostile Universe in new Worlds of Doctor Who adventures

May 5, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Doctor Who fans with a love for what goes on when the Doctor isn’t around can now purchase The Worlds of Doctor Who – UNIT Eras: Hostile Universe, a new full-cast audio drama box set available from Big Finish. Featuring four brand-new stories, this box set follows the brave soldiers and scientists of UNIT (Unified Intelligence Taskforce) as they step up to face the enemies of Earth. A new trailer can be seen below….

The four brand-new audio episodes set across UNIT’s history (including the first ever UNIT story in the Fifteenth Doctor era) are:

Rise of the Valiant by Andrew Smith – During the events of ‘The Stolen Earth’, the Doctor was fighting to restore everything to how it was, so it fell upon the heroes of UNIT to fight back against the Daleks. Colonel Mace, Harry Sullivan, and the retired Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart know of a secret weapon with a familiar name that is waiting in the Brazilian rainforest.

This episode stars Jon Culshaw as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Christopher Naylor as Harry Sullivan, Rupert Holliday-Evans as Colonel Mace, Meghan Treadway as Major Zara Webber, Ines Amado as Chief Engineer Aurea De Silva, and Nicholas Briggs as the Daleks.

The Indigo Child by Ken Bentley – Taking the action back to 2017, this episode finds UNIT disbanded and its heroes targeted. After an attempt on the life of Kate Stewart, she starts fighting back from the shadows alongside Petronella Osgood. It’s a race against time and an enemy that is determined to win at all costs.

The cast of The Indigo Child is Jemma Redgrave as Kate Stewart, Ingrid Oliver as Petronella Osgood, Natalie Gumede as Angela Rukundo, Julie Teal as Woman with No Name, Alan Cox as Nathan Favager, and Robert Whitelock as Edwards.

Sadie Miller stars as Sarah Jane Smith, alongside Jon Culshaw as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, George Somner as Private Eddie Wise, Elaine Tan as Lynn Prentice/Lynn’s Sister, Lois Chimimba as Lance-Corporal Maggie Bradfield, Angus Imrie as Private Chris Hutchinson/Private Colin Bartlett, and Jonathan Keeble as Barry Buckingham/Horace Otter.

Deadstar by Joshua Pruett and Jonathan S Powell – It’s 2023 and the Toymaker has been defeated. This has left UNIT in a strong position, that is until the UNIT skyscraper is plunged into lockdown following the activation of a cutting-edge telescope. Melanie Bush, Colonel Alec Grover and Dr Isla Ellis have their work cut out for them as the stars have woken up and there is something wrong with the Vlinx.
