Michael Bay is set to direct another movie based on real-life U.S. military manoeuvres by adapting a forthcoming book that depicts the rescue of two downed pilots behind enemy lines in Iran.
According to Deadline the Transformers and Bad Boys director will once again use a Mitchell Zuckoff book as inspiration following his 2016 adaptation of 13 Hours. That John Krasinski headlined slice of action jingoism earned Bay some of the strongest reviews of his career and grossed $70 million worldwide.
Zuckoff’s forthcoming novel, which HarperCollins will send to shelves in 2027, tells the tale of the two U.S. airmen who were shot down during Operation Epic Fury, and the perilous rescue mission that followed in the Zagros Mountains of Iran.
The film will also reunite Bay with Universal Pictures, who backed his last big-screen outing, 2022’s really-rather-good action-flick Ambulance, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and grossed over $50 million at a post-pandemic box-office.
On the project, Bay told Deadline that the “film is about everyone who answered the call in one of the most complex, intricate and high-stakes operations in recent history. It celebrates the true heroism and unwavering dedication of our service members.”
