The John Wick spin-off Caine has added How To Train Your Dragon breakout star Mason Thames to the cast of the upcoming film from Donnie Yen.
Caine will follow Yen’s assassin Caine, who was newly retired and free from his obligations to the High Table following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. However, as audiences saw with John, the High Table and its dangers are ever present as the fourth film ended with Rina Sawayama’s Akira sneaking on him to avenge the death of her father by his hands.
Caine will see Yen reprise his role as well as direct for his English-language directing debut from a script by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) and Robert Askins. Sawayama will also return as Akira while Thames joins Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) among the new characters in the world of John Wick.
Lionsgate has been expanding the John Wick franchise in the last few years while director Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves develop John Wick: Chapter 5. In addition to Caine, an an anime prequel and a Keanu Reeves-led video game for current gen consoles are both on the horizon.
A release date is yet to be announced for Caine, but expect it in 2027.
