Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor faces the Sycorax this November in new Doctor Who adventure

June 5, 2026 by Andrew Newton

Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor faces old enemies alongside new companions this November when Big Finish Productions releases Doctor Who: The Eighth Doctor Adventures – New Pathways, a new full-cast audio drama box set. In a new six-part audio drama miniseries, spread across two box sets, the Doctor and his new companions take on the Sycorax.

Fans have seen the Doctor take on the Sycorax twice now, first in the 2005 Doctor Who TV special The Christmas Invasion and in a 2016 Classic Doctors, New Monsters audio episode, with the Seventh Doctor. Now, the Eighth Doctor, his loyal companion Alfie Steep (Sam Stafford) and new recruit Chase Moyo (Natalie Gumede) will thwart the Sycorax’s plans in late twenty-first century Britain.

New Pathways will feature the following three exciting stories:

Chase by Alan Ronald – Chase is working a soul-sucking call centre job, but when she accidentally connects to a mysterious police box and the Doctor, her life is about to change forever.

Magic of the Sycorax by Katharine Armitage – Chase’s first outing in the TARDIS takes her to a remote mining base besieged by powerful and unfriendly forces. The Doctor has defeated the Sycorax before, but this time they have more magic, command more darkness and, for the crew of the TARDIS, there is so much more to lose.

Blast from the Past by Robert Valentine – During one of the TARDIS’s more mischievous moments, the time travellers find themselves in Burnley in 2096. Unfortunately, they discover the UK has become an authoritarian dictatorship under fascist leader Bastian Clore. History has gone very wrong, but is something more sinister at work than Clore’s propaganda? Meanwhile, Chase discovers her descendants are part of an underground movement determined to dissolve Clore’s regime.

This box set also includes a brand-new feature-length audio documentary that celebrates the thirty years of Paul McGann’s Doctor.

The Eighth Doctor Adventures: New Pathways is available to pre-order now for £19.99 for the download, or £24.99 for the download and limited collector’s edition.
