Anya Taylor-Joy joins The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum

June 18, 2026 by Gary Collinson

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s Anya Taylor-Joy is heading to Middle-earth, with Variety reporting that the actress has joined the ensemble cast of the Andy Serkis-directed The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.

The casting marks another big franchise for Taylor-Joy, who is fresh off her voice role as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and also stars as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Three, releasing in December. The Hunt for Gollum will see her taking on the role of Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm, and a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil (Lee Pace, reprising his role from The Hobbit trilogy).

In addition to directing, Andy Serkis reprises the title role in The Hunt For Gollum alongside fellow Middle-earth veterans Pace (Thranduil), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), while other new additions alongside Taylor-Joy include Jamie Dornan as Aragorn, Leo Woodall as Halvard, and Kate Winslet as Marigol.

The Hunt for Gollum will take place during the early portion of The Fellowship of the Ring, exploring the events between Bilbo’s 111th birthday party and Gandalf’s confirmation that Frodo possesses the One Ring, with Gandalf, Aragorn and Sauron all searching for the location of Gollum. It is being produced by The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy director Peter Jackson, who is also expanding his Middle-earth further with the recently announced sequel The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, co-written by Stephen Colbert.
