The superhero bubble has burst? Well, not when Spider-Man is involved, it seems, as Marvel Studios and Sony’s latest offering Spider-Man: Brand New Day has grossed an amazing $927 million in its opening weekend around the world.
More than double its initial global projections of $425 million, the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is second only to Avengers: Endgame for the biggest opening of all time, with the latter stunning back in 2019 with $1.22 billion. It fell just $2.3 million short of topping Endgame’s North American opening weekend record, pulling in $354.8 million domestically, but did manage to set new opening records in a host of markets including France ($26.6m), India ($31.8m), Brazil ($23.8m), Spain ($15.6m), Peru ($8.6m), Colombia ($6.8m), United Arab Emirates ($6.8m), Saudi Arabia ($5.4m), Chile ($5.0m), Turkey ($4.7m), Ecuador ($4.1m) and Belgium ($4.0m).
In the UK, Brand New Day opened to $49 million, the third-biggest weekend of all time after Spectre ($63.4m) and Endgame ($56.0m), while other big markets included China ($121.0m), Mexico ($38.3m), South Korea ($25.3m), Australia ($21.4m), Germany ($20.0m), Italy ($18.2m), Argentina ($10.5m), Japan ($10.0m) and the Philippines ($9.3 million).
Comparing it to its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home debuted to $600.5 million back in 2021 and went on to amass $1.921 billion worldwide during its run, which suggests that Brand New Day has a solid shot at cracking the $2 billion dollar mark – a feat managed by only seven films to date. It will certainly go on to topple Toy Story 5 ($1.066 billion) to become the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far, although we do of course still have Avengers: Doomsday to come…
