Warner Bros. shifts Wonder Woman and Jungle Book release dates, adds two new DC films to its slate

April 6, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that it has brought forward the release of Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman movie, with the film set to arrive in theaters a few weeks earlier, having been moved up to June 2nd 2017 from its original June 23rd date.

Meanwhile, the studio has also added a further two DC movies to its Extended Universe slate, with the unannounced titles set to land on October 5th 2018 and November 1st 2019. Warner is keeping both under wraps for the time being, but smart money would suggest one of them is likely to be Ben Affleck’s Batman movie.

In addition to Wonder Woman and the two new movies, Warner has a further eight DC movies announced: Suicide Squad (August 5th, 2016), Justice League Part One (November 17th 2017), The Flash (March 16th, 2018), Aquaman (July 27th, 2018), Shazam! (April 5th, 2019), Justice League Part Two (June 14th, 2019), Cyborg (April 3rd, 2020) and Green Lantern Corps (June 19th, 2020).

Furthermore, with Disney’s The Jungle Book opening this month [read our review here], Warner has announced that it has pushed back its own take on Rudyard Kipling’s classic, Jungle Book: Origins, a whole year from October 6th 2017 to October 19th 2018.

“I’ve got to say that personally I’m absolutely thrilled that Warner Bros. has changed the delivery date of our movie,” states Andy Serkis, who will make his directorial debut on the film. “The ambition for this project is huge. What we are attempting is an unprecedented level of psychological and emotional nuance in morphing the phenomenal performances of our cast into the facial expressions of our animals. So, every minute more that we have to evolve the technological pipeline will make all the difference. … The evidence is there already and it’s off the chain exciting, so hang on in there. …This is truly next-generation storytelling, and it will be the real deal!”
