Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone to reteam for Life of the Party

April 9, 2016 by Justin Cook

According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Melissa McCarthy and her husband, director Ben Falcone, will be teaming up once again for New Line’s upcoming comedy Life of the Party. Falcone is set to direct the film and McCarthy has signed on to star, making this the pair’s third collaboration of that sort. The duo penned the script for the film and are both set to produce as well.

Life of the Party is described by the outlet as being “akin in tone to the Rodney Dangerfield hit Back to School and pitched as a broad comedy playing on McCarthy’s strengths.” Aside from that, plot details are currently unknown.

Falcone first directed McCarthy in 2014’s Tammy, a film that, while panned by critics, turned a tidy profit at the box office, taking in over $100 million on a $20 million budget. It looks like the pair’s most recent effort, this weekend’s The Boss, is about to be met with a similar fate, seeing as how the film is receiving fairly poor reviews but pulled in fairly strong Friday box office numbers. In fact, for the weekend, it will be a tight race, but The Boss could be the first film to take the number one box office spot from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Aside from the acting/directing relationship, the two have also appeared on-screen together in a number of films, including both of the previously mentioned titles, Bridesmaids, The Heat and more.

Reportedly, Party will have a similar budget as Tammy and is aiming to shoot in August.
