Kevin Feige teases a “very different” Phase Four for the Marvel Cinematic Universe

April 16, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to get underway with the release of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel has laid out its plans for the next three years, announcing a slate of films that takes us through to 2019’s Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 and Inhumans.

There is however an air of uncertainty about what comes next; contracts are expiring, and Infinity War promises to be a culmination of everything we’ve seen so far from the MCU. Of course, Disney and Marvel aren’t going to call time on their box office juggernaut, and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has been chatting to EW about what comes next, promising a “very different” Phase Four:

“I think you look at comics as a guide,” states Feige. “I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases.”

Marvel is of course expanding their roster with Phase Three, so there’s every chance we could see a Phase made up of sequels to the likes of Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel, along with a third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which Feige has already suggested to be a possibility for Phase Four. That would certainly help to keep things fresh, as well as giving some breathing space before the inevitable recasting of some of the older characters.
