For the past several months Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel American Gods has been picking up a lot of steam, casting The 100’s Ricky Whittle and Deadwood’s Ian McShane in the two lead roles of Shadow Moon and Mr. Wednesday respectively. Now comes word that American Gods has started shooting its 10 episode first season in Toronto, Canada before moving onto to various locations across North America. Author Neil Gaiman tweeted a photo from the set with the caption “Oh yes. It’s happening. It’s really happening.”

Not only that, but the show has filled out its cast with four additional actors: Peter Stormare (Prison Break, Arrow), Cloris Leachman (Malcolm in the Middle, Raising Hope), Chris Obi (Snow White and The Hunstman) and Mousa Kraish (Superbad, Fast and Furious).
Stormare will play Czernobog, a Slavic god of darkness and evil who reluctantly allies himself with Mr. Wednesday in the coming war between the old and new gods.
Leachman will be Zorya Vechernyaya, the eldest of three sisters who watch over the constellations and protect mankind from forgotten dangers.
Obi plays Anubis, the commanding ancient Egyptian god of the dead, judging the souls of mortals as they enter the afterlife.
Kraish will The Jinn, an afrit who can see a person’s deepest desire. He spends his time as a cab driver, but wants to flee before the war truly starts.
American Gods sees the old, mythological gods coming into conflict with the more modern gods of today: gods of technology, science, money and media. Shadow Moon, an ex-con who was just released from jail, comes into the service of Mr. Wednesday, secretly the old god Odin, and joins him in recruiting other surviving gods in the coming war with the new breed.
Developed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) and Michael Green (Kings, Heroes), the series stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Sean Harris as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, and Jonathan Tucker as Low Key Lyesmith and will be likely premiere late 2016.
