Beverly Hills Cop 4 is back on, enlists directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah

June 14, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It looks like Paramount Pictures has decided to resurrect Beverly Hills Cop 4, with Deadline reporting that Belgian writer-directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Black) have signed are to direct the long-gestating fourth instalment of the action-comedy franchise.

According to the site, El Arbi and Fallah have been working with star Eddie Murphy, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec in order to perfect the script, which will bring Alex Foley back to his Detroit roots (presumably Detroit Cop doesn’t quite have the same ring to it). The plan is for filming to get underway late this year, or early 2017.

A fourth instalment in the series has been on the cards since the mid-90s; Brett Ratner was attached to direct in 2008, although it slipped into development hell and Murphy and Paramount then tried to take the franchise to the small screen, although CBS ultimately passed on the project. The movie was revived again in 2013, with Ratner still attached, and was initially planned for a March 2016 release before Paramount pulled it from its schedule due to script concerns.
