Channing Tatum says he’s yet to finalise a deal to play Gambit in X-Men: Apocalypse

May 23, 2014 by Gary Collinson

After lots of talk from both Channing Tatum and Lauren Shuler Donner linking Tatum to the role of Gambit in Fox’s X-Men universe, last week saw the producer announcing that the 21 Jump Street star had signed on to play the card-throwing mutant in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

However, it appears that Shuler Donner may have jumped the gun a little, with Tatum now telling THR that he’s yet to formally agree a deal:

“I hope to be joining — everything’s not done yet. I’ve obviously been in talks, and we’re on the one yard line. I’m always afraid of being like, ‘Yes it’s totally happening’ and then it doesn’t happen. I’m dying to do it.”

X-Men: Apocalypse will follow on from X-Men: Days of Future Past, and should Tatum reach an agreement he’ll join a cast that so far includes James McAvoy (Professor Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) and Hugh Jackman (Wolverine). The film is set for release on May 27th 2016.
