Cat Grant’s Not Going Anywhere: Calista Flockhart confirmed for Supergirl season 2

August 2, 2016 by Gary Collinson

It’s fair to say that Supergirl is in for a few changes, when it returns for season two on October 10th, with a new network (the former ABC series joins Greg Berlanti’s other DC shows on The CW), new setting (with the network change, the show has moved production from LA to Vancouver) and Superman (Tyler Hoechlin makes his first on-screen appearance as Kara’s cousin this fall).

Fortunately for fans, however, one change that won’t be happening is Calista Flockhart’s departure as CatCo head, Cat Grant. While concern over her continued role on the show was almost instant, in light of the series’ change of home, the announcement has now been made that Flockhart is signed as a recurring guest star next season. What that means, in terms of number of episodes, isn’t clear yet, but the premiere at least looks good for a probable Cat sighting.

“Supergirl wouldn’t be Supergirl without the amazing Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant,” said Andrew Kreisberg (via Hitfix). “We are so excited Calista has agreed to continue on the show when she can. We and the audience love to see her on screen.”

In a genre that leans towards male leads, Supergirl made its mark early as a strong force for female empowerment. Flockhart, as Cat, was a huge part of that message, literally in her speeches as company leader, tough love role model, and Supergirl advisee. Here’s to more memorable lines, and the trials of finding a secretary to replace “Kira,” in the episodes ahead.
