It’s come to this: Fans petition to shut down Rotten Tomatoes following mixed Suicide Squad reviews

August 3, 2016 by admin

The Internet and Twitter were in shock last night as the first batch of Suicide Squad reviews landed online – and they weren’t very pretty. Many of trades (Hollywood Reporter, ComingSoon, etc) called it “a mess” while sites like ComicBook, Births.Movies.Death and Hitflix said the fun characters out-weighed the movie’s flaws.

As such, Suicide Squad now sits at 35% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes – which has led to a group of fans (presumably DC fans) creating an online petition to shut the site down.

“We need this site to be shut down because It’s [sic] Critics always give The DC Extended Universe movies unjust Bad Reviews,” the petition poorly reads. “Like 1- Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 2016 2- Suicide Squad 2016 and that Affects people’s opinion even if it’s a really great movies.”

While this petition is slightly silly (Rotten Tomatoes just aggregate external reviews, really they want to shut down The Hollywood Reporter et al), it has gained some traction. At the time of writing, it only needs just over 100 more signatures to reach its goal.

This isn’t the first petition against Rotten Tomatoes, or the first instance of fans reacting badly to poor reviews. Some critics received death threats from fans of Zootropolis because their reviews knocked the film off its perfect 100% score, and some people threw shade at critics for giving positive reviews to the Ghostbusters reboot.

Flickering Myth’s review of Suicide Squad will be live this Thursday evening.

It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
