Going by the way he was prominently featured in the marketing campaign, you’d be forgiven for expecting Jared Leto’s Joker to be one of the main players in Warner Bros.’ latest DC Films release, Suicide Squad.
However, as it turns out, the Clown Prince of Crime is firmly a supporting player in the ensemble, and according to Leto himself, much of his material was left on the cutting room floor.
“There are a lot of scenes that didn’t make it to the final film,” Leto told Telestar (via SlashFilm). “Hopefully they will see the light of day. Who knows.”
Leto spoke more about it to IGN, stating that: “Were there any that didn’t get cut? I’m asking you, were there any that didn’t get cut? There were so many scenes that got cut from the movie, I couldn’t even start. I think that the Joker… we did a lot of experimentation on the set, we explored a lot. There’s so much that we shot that’s not in the film. If I die anytime soon, it’s probably likely that it’ll surface somewhere. That’s the good news about the death of an actor is all that stuff seems to come out.”

Over on Reddit, there’s been some discussion regarding Joker scenes that featured in early test screenings, including him slapping Harley Quinn during his battle with the Suicide Squad, which apparently didn’t go down too well with the audience. And of course, there’s the above shot, which appeared in the trailers and TV spots for the film, and presumably shows the Joker after his helicopter crash.
