The Men in Black / 23 Jump Street crossover might not happen after all

August 11, 2016 by Luke Owen

It was revealed from the Sony email hacks that the studio planned to use 23 Jump Street as a backdoor reboot to their comic book adaptation of Men in Black, which was then revealed to be titled MIB23 with James Bobin (Alice Through The Looking Glass) as director.

Well, Jonah Hill has put some water on that potential fire.

“I doubt that movie will get made,” Hill told ComingSoon. “It’s too complicated. They’re trying to make all the deals, but it’s kind of impossible with all the Men in Black stuff. The Jump Street films were so fun to make and the whole joke of them was they were making fun of remakes and sequels and reboots and then now it’s become a giant sequel, reboot. It’s almost become what we were making fun of and it’s hard to maintain that joke when it’s so high stakes. I love Channing [Tatum] and I love Phil Lord and Chris Miller and I love making those movies — they’re a lot of fun. So I hope it works out.”

With Ghostbusters losing Sony a reported $70 million and Alice Through The Looking Glass making a disappointing $289 million, it looks like Sony aren’t going to be so quick to greenlight risky projects any time soon.

Are you sad to see MIB23 on the shelf?
