The Secret Life of Pets hits $800 million worldwide, Illumination Entertainment passes $4 billion

September 18, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s animated comedy The Secret Life of Pets has hit another box office milestone today, with the film pushing its worldwide haul to $805 million.

The Secret Life of Pets has now climbed to sixth in the list of the highest grossing movies of the year, as well as propelling Illumination’s worldwide cume to $4.027 billion.

The production company kicked things off in 2010 with the release of Despicable Me, and followed it up with Hop, The Lorax, Despicable Me 2 and Minions. Next up is Sing, which opens in December, followed by Despicable Me 3 in 2017 and The Secret Life of Pets 2 and How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2018.

For their fifth fully-animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures present The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.

Comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart make their animated feature-film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets, which co-stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks.
