It looks like we can add The Italian Job to the ever-increasing list of movies heading to the small screen, with Deadline reporting that NBC has given a script commitment to a drama series inspired by the 1969 classic and its 2003 remake.
The site reports that the TV series, which hails from Paramount TV, is described as “a noisy, sexy, thrill-ride that follows a make-shift family of expert criminals, who are forced out of retirement when an opportunity arises to get their beloved ‘patriarch’ out of jail. At the core of this dysfunctional family is Charlie Croker — played by Michael Caine and Mark Wahlberg in the movies — a handsome and charming ex-con, who tried to go straight, but like the rest of his crew, can’t resist the adrenaline rush of the high-stakes heist world.”
Rob Weiss (Ballers) and Benjamin Brand (Bollywood Hero) are writing the series – which is said to preserve the action, humor, romance and picturesque international locales of the movies – and will also executive produce alongside Donald De Line, producer on the 2003 movie.
