Duncan Jones’ Mute picked up by Netflix, will be related to Moon

October 2, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With production now underway on Warcraft hemer Duncan Jones’ long-gestating sci-fi project Mute, star Alexander Skarsgard has revealed on the Empire podcast that the film is set to be distributed by Netflix.

“I think they’ll do what they did with Beasts Of No Nation,” where they do a theatrical simultaneously to a Netflix release,” said Skarsgard. “I’ve just got back from Dublin where Duncan showed me all the renderings and the visuals of it and I’m very, very excited about it.”

The movie will see Skarsgard playing Leo Beiler, a mute bartender looking to track down his girlfriend in a dystopian Berlin set thirty years in the future, with the actor adding that: “It’s about a guy who was in an accident as a kid. He’s ex-Amish, so he lives a very monastic life: he doesn’t have a cellphone or anything like that. He’s left the [Amish] community but he still kinda follows the rules.”

Meanwhile, with speculation running rampant that Sam Rockwell will make an appearance as his character from Moon, Jones has confirmed on Twitter that the two movies are set in the same universe:

related to Moon. 🙂

Mute is currently shooting now and will also feature Paul Rudd, who is playing an American surgeon that may have a clue as to the whereabouts of Leo’s missing girlfriend.
