Comic Book Review – Geek-Girl #1

Tai Freligh reviews Geek-Girl #1…

Trying to be a super-hero, Ruby Kaye stumbles across a mysterious and extremely dangerous new villain taking down her town’s Numero Uno heroine – and is forced to step up and use her powers for more than just accidentally knocking drinks over her friends… Geek-Girl is entering the Super-Hero Big Leagues – whether she’s ready or not!

While the artwork in Geek-Girl is excellent, the storyline failed to keep my interest.  Perhaps a younger audience would appreciate the whole outsider trying to fit into the cool crowd more. The concept of how Ruby gets her powers is interesting and unique if not a bit too far-fetched to be believable, but I won’t spoil it here.

This is a story about somebody trying to learn how to become a superhero, which is always interesting. What do you do when you have powers, but no training?  Ruby also tries to fit in with the cool girls at her school, but she keeps making mistakes.

While the general themes of this comic book were interesting, I just didn’t feel like they pulled it off well enough for me to want to see what happens in the second issue and that’s a shame.

Geek-Girl #1 is available in comic book shops now.
