The Troll Hunter remake is not moving forward

November 11, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Back in 2013, it was announced that Chris Columbus’ 1942 Pictures production company had snapped up the remake rights to André Øvredal’s rather fantastic found footage monster movie Troll Hunter, tapping Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent) to direct.

Since then, we’ve heard nothing about the planned remake, and it seems that it is no longer moving forward, with director Øvredal revealing to Birth.Movies.Death that Marshall’s busy schedule may have killed the project.

“I don’t know exactly [what happened],” said Øvredal. “I was very happy with what I read; I never communicated with anybody about it, but I read on-line that Neil Marshall was attached to direct it, and I was like, ‘OK, I can get behind that,’ and then suddenly it didn’t happen. I believe that just after signing up for Troll Hunter, Neil got too busy with Game of Thrones, and that’s what stopped it; that seems to be the case, anyway, and then it just kind of died.”

Well, I guess we’ll just have to stick with Øvredal’s original film – and if you haven’t seen it, you should definitely track it down.
