Star Trek: Discovery adds three Klingons to its cast

December 13, 2016 by Ricky Church

Star Trek: Discovery has added three new cast members to the show: Chris Obi (American Gods), Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful) and Mary Chieffo (Miss Dial) will all star as Klingons, who, at this point in the Star Trek timeline, are still considered enemies of the Federation.

Obi will play  T’Kuvma, a Klingon leader seeking to unite the various Klingon houses, with Latif as Kol, T’Kuvma’s protege and a commanding officer in the Klingon army, and Chieffo as L’Rell, the battle deck commander of a Klingon ship.

Discovery takes place roughly 10 years before The Original Series when Starfleet and the Klingons had very uneasy relations, undergoing their own cold war as Gene Roddenberry drew on the political tensions between America and Russia at the time.

Star Trek: Discovery is set to air on CBS All Access in the States and on Netflix internationally. It will get underway in May 2017. Also featuring in the cast are Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Doug Jones (Hellboy), Anthony Rapp (Road Trip).
