Godzilla sequel gets a title as Pacific Rim: Maelstrom undergoes title change

December 15, 2016 by Ricky Church

Legendary Entertainment has announced the title of 2014’s Godzilla sequel while also revealing Pacific Rim: Maelstrom has undergone a change of title to Pacific Rim: Uprising. The news came from the studio, but rather make an announcement about the films themselves, they strangely sneaked this into a press release regarding the hiring of executives in various positions.

The Godzilla sequel is now titled Godzilla: King of Monsters, something that has long been Godzilla’s nickname and was hinted at in the reboot. The sequel will not be directed by original helmer Gareth Edwards, but rather by Krampus‘ Michael Dougherty. It is scheduled for a March 22, 2019 release date with a future crossover with Kong: Skull Island in the works. Pacific Rim: Uprising, meanwhile is currently filming in Australia with Steven S. DeKnight (Daredevil) directing for a February 23, 2018 release.
