Screen Gems’ Slender Man movie lands Stomp The Yard director Sylvain White

January 5, 2017 by James Garcia

This past May, Sony and Screen Gems put a movie about viral horror sensation Slender Man into development, and now that project has a director.

According to Deadline, Stomp the Yard and The Losers helmer Sylvain White has been tapped to bring the faceless, abnormally tall Slender Man to the big screen, with production set to begin this Spring.

Slender Man was created in 2009 when Eric Knudson shared two Photoshopped images on the Something Awful internet forum featuring a tall, faceless figure in a dark suit. The character quickly went viral, inspiring a host of fan artwork, online fiction and two video games Slender: The Eight Pages and Slender: The Arrival. There have been five low budget Slender Man films made over the years: Windigo (2011), Hylo (2012), Proxy (2012), Entity (2013), and Always Watching (2015). HBO just announced its own true crime documentary, Beware the Slenderman, which arrives later this month on Monday, January 23rd.

Sony’s Slender Man (which still lacks an official title) is being written by 13 Sins scribe David Birke.
