Archer will move to FXX for season 8

January 5, 2017 by Justin Cook

Originally published January 5, 2017. Updated April 15, 2018.

After seven seasons on FX, Archer will finally be making the move over to FXX for its upcoming eighth season and beyond.

The decision was announced by Chuck Saftler, president of program strategy and COO of FX Networks, at the Television Critics Association press tour.

The news shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, considering how many of FX’s show have been forced to make the move to its sister network since its launch in 2013. In particular, the channel is focused on bringing in the male 18-34 demographic, beloved by advertisers, through both original scripted and syndicated content.

Archer will be joining such other FX original shows that have made the jump to FXX as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (the show’s record-breaking twelfth season began yesterday), You’re the Worst and The League, and such shows that were birthed by FXX as Man Seeking Woman and Major Lazer.

Even if ratings dip on the new network, as they are known to do, Archer has already been renewed for a ninth and tenth season (the latter likely being its last one), so fans don’t have to worry about Sterling Archer and the gang going on their last mission anytime soon.

Archer season 8 hasn’t nailed down an official premiere date yet, but expect it to hit the airwaves this spring; the season will consist of eight episodes.
