Fox still wants Bryan Singer to helm X-Men: Apocalypse

June 27, 2014 by James Garcia

Even before Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past hit theaters, 2oth Century Fox hired him to helm its sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse. However, after he got caught up in a legal battle following alleged sexual abuse charges, he disappeared from the film’s press circuit and rumors began to spread about his future with the franchise.

A few weeks ago, reports came in that Fox may take him off of Apocalypse and hand the film to someone else, not because they doubted his innocence, but because any future legal obligations would likely delay production on the film.

While we still don’t have a concrete answer about Singer’s future employment, we now know that Fox has every intention of keeping him on board. In an interview with THR, Fox president Emma Watts explains:

It’s always been the intention for him to [direct Apocalypse]. Right now we are totally at the outlining phase, but nothing would make me happier than if it all worked out. It’s alwasy been the intention for him to do it.

She attributes the wild success of Days of Future Past to Singer’s return to the franchise he started back in 2000, saying that “management of the franchise” was key and that “a big part of it was getting Bryan back.”

So, as of right now, it looks like nothing is set in stone, but that chances are good Bryan Singer will indeed direct X-Men: Apocalypse for release on May 27, 2016. With Singer’s legal battle still unresolved, we’ll make sure to keep you posted as things progress.
